Omega 3, A Medical Miracle Leave your drugs in the chemist’s pot if you can heal the patient with food." Hippocrates. Lately we have all heard so much about omega 3, and its many health benefits. When I turn my radio on in the morning, there are at least 3 Omega 3 advertisements in a 1 hour period. Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids found in certain fish tissues, and in vegetable sources. A number of years ago, I did not hear of Omega 3. Well, not to any great extend anyways. Today, Omega 3 is mentioned on radio shows and television shows. It is written about in newspapers and magazines. And as is so often quoted, boy did our moms who fed us cod liver oil kn...
Fats And Carbohydrates – Their Place In Your Healthy Diet Lately it would seem that fats and carbohydrates have both gotten a bad rap. First it was fat that was the culprit in all dietary ills, and low fat diets were all the rage. After all, the most successful diet is not one that you can follow for a day, a week or even a year. On the contrary, the only successful diet and nu...

| Make The Link Between Diabetes And Heart Disease (ARA) - Diabetes is a complex disease that can be difficult to understand and an even greater challenge to manage. | The Elimination Of Heart Attack -- Is It Possible? (ARA) - Heart disease is the largest killer of Americans -- more people in the United States die from diseases of the heart and blood vessels than all other diseases combined. Despite the fact that our country has the best heart hospitals and the finest cardiovascular specialists in the world, the heart attack rate here is not substantially different than the heart attack rate in any other country. The most common culprit in this deadly scenario is atherosclerosis -- premature plaque build up, which clogs the coronary arteries that supply the heart muscle with vital oxygen and nutrients. Seventy percent of heart attacks take ... | |
| The Risk Of Ischemic Heart Disease With Low-fat, High-carbohydrate Diets There is convincing scientific evidence that type of fat have a more important role in determining the risk of coronary heart disease(CHD) than total amount of fat in the diet.(1) However, because of misleading presentation of epidemiological data by some authors(1), the readers might be left with the impression that low-fat, high- carbohydrate diet is the best option for patients with CHD risk. In fact, high- carbohydrate diets, in the absence of weight loss, can lead to both elevated triglyceride and reduced HDL cholesterol, effects that may be associated with increased risk for CHD.(2) Although these effects may be lessened with dietary fiber and moderate physical activity, they appear to be worse among indivi... | |
| There Is Something Fishy About Triglycerides. I get a kick out of those commercials which portray conversations at the kitchen table or in the locker room in ways that we don’t normally see. Two women sipping coffee from pretty china cups might naturally start discussing headache medications or hygiene. Men might forgo the normal locker room banter for the much superior topics of foot care or that insurance that only a duck can seem to remember. Some people even get so excited about their cholesterol that they stop perfect strangers on the street to announce significant reductions in their own cholesterol leve... | |
